Dear NUI voter,
The voting process for the NUI Panel of Seanad Éireann is underway, and I want to take this opportunity to give voters a quick update as to where things stand. This information is particularly relevant to those who are yet to vote.
Each registered voter receives a ballot paper (to be marked 1, 2, 3 and so on, in order of preference, as in a General Election), a declaration of identity form (to be signed by the voter and another individual) and an envelope in which to return the ballot paper and the declaration to the NUI. Your ballot paper will look like this (via https://neverfeltbetter.wordpress.com/):
An Post began posting ballots on March 21st. Ballots must be returned to the NUI by April 26th.
These documents are sent by registered post to the address at which the voter is registered. If the voter is not at home when the ballot arrives, a green ‘Sorry we missed you’ docket is left and the vote can be collected from your local post office. If the ballot is uncollected after three days, it is returned to the NUI and can be retrieved by the voter by contacting NUI using the details which I’ve set out below.
An Post also provides a service which enables a customer who has received a green ‘Sorry we missed you’ docket from An Post to redirect their mail at no cost to an alternative address of their choice. This can be accessed at http://www.anpost.ie/redelivery.
The NUI have indicated that, due to the long Easter weekend, and also due to the large volume of ballot papers (c. 103,000 to be delivered to NUI voters and c. 65,000 to be delivered to TCD voters), An Post do not expect all ballot papers to be delivered until later this week (the week ending Friday 1st April) at the earliest.
Therefore, please do not be alarmed if your ballot hasn’t arrived yet – it may well be with you over the weekend.
If you have any queries regarding your registration or the voting procedure, or the whereabouts of your ballot paper if you have not yet received it, please contact the NUI by emailing elections@nui.ie, or by calling 01 439 2424.
Alternatively, please contact me with any queries at info@michaelmcdowell.ie.
Best wishes
Michael
